This document is designed as a clear operational policy. It should be reviewed periodically against changes in Kenyan law and the company’s actual practices.
Tell us when something is wrong
TPM corrects significant errors openly and as quickly as responsible verification allows. Corrections are not treated as an embarrassment; they are part of accountable journalism.
1. What to include
- The exact article, video, programme or social-post URL.
- The statement you believe is inaccurate and why.
- Reliable supporting evidence or a person we can contact to verify it.
- Your relationship to the subject and the remedy requested.
- Whether there is an urgent safety, court, election or market concern.
2. How we assess requests
An editor reviews the original reporting, notes, source material and relevant law; seeks a response from the reporter and affected people; assesses significance and urgency; and decides whether to correct, clarify, update, add a response, label an archive, remove material or take no action. The complainant’s status, influence or advertising relationship does not determine the outcome.
3. Types of change
4. Visibility of corrections
Material digital corrections are noted on the article with the nature and date of change. We correct associated headlines, captions and owned social posts where practical. Minor spelling, grammar, formatting or style edits that do not change meaning may be made silently.
5. Right of reply
A person or organisation subject to significant criticism may request a proportionate response. Publication is subject to relevance, length, factual standards, safety and law. A right of reply does not create a right to dictate wording, remove accurate public-interest reporting or publish abusive material.
6. Appeals and external complaints
If you disagree with the first decision, reply within 14 days and request review by a senior editor, identifying the overlooked evidence or standard. If still unresolved, you may use a regulator, complaints body or court with lawful jurisdiction, including applicable Media Council of Kenya procedures.
7. Response targets
We aim to acknowledge a well-formed request within two business days. High-risk factual errors are triaged immediately. Complex investigations, archive questions and legal claims may require more time; we will provide an update where practicable.
